NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police say a 5-year-old boy died Sunday evening in Lake Pontchartrain at about the same spot where a 7-year-old girl drowned Saturday.

Multiple news outlets report police have not released the victims’ names.

In Saturday’s incident, a 7-year-old girl was swimming with friends about 4 p.m. Witnesses saw the girls were having difficulty and began helping them to safety but saw that the 7-year-old was unresponsive.

Police responded to a call of a possible drowning about 5 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they learned that an aunt had the 5-year-old by his hand in the water. Police say the child was trying to go into deeper water when he slipped from his aunt’s hand and immediately submerged.
