ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A third public hearing is scheduled this week for the proposed management plan for the Essex Chain Lakes tract in the central Adirondacks.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is holding the hearing at 1 p.m. Wednesday at DEC headquarters, 625 Broadway in Albany. Public comments on the plan are being accepted until July 27.

The proposal for the tract of new state Forest Preserve land in Newcomb, Minerva and Indian Lake includes a new community-connector snowmobile trail, paddling access, horse trails and mountain biking trails.

Environmental groups have criticized the plan for keeping an old iron logging bridge over the Hudson River and building a new bridge for motorized use over the Cedar River.
