ATLANTA (AP) - Grammy-nominated singer Akon gave thanks to concertgoers at the inaugural Passport Experience Festival.

Along with Akon, rappers Ying Yang Twins and reggae singer Gyptian took the stage at the concert on Sunday night at Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta. A portion of each ticket sold will contribute to “Akon Lighting Africa,” a solar power initiative created by Akon to bring electricity to countries by 2016.

Akon hosted the daylong concert, which also featured 20 artists representing 10 countries.

DJ Fully Focus, the creator of the festival, says he is aiming to unite music lovers from all cultural backgrounds in a way.

The singer was born in the U.S. of Senegalese parents and was reared in both countries.
