VISALIA, Calif. (AP) - Visalia police have arrested a woman after finding a man, who had allegedly been under her care, with signs of prolonged neglect.

The Visalia Times-Delta reports (https://vtd-tar.co/1fhA9iP ) that 59-year-old Mary Jane Bryant was arrested Saturday after an anonymous tip alleging “elder abuse” led officials to a Visalia residence.

Bryant let responding officers in to the home to check the welfare of the 57-year-old male, who had been deemed non-ambulatory. Someone who is non-ambulatory is unable to demonstrate the mental and physical ability to leave a building without assistance from another person, or without medical aid in the case of an emergency.

The male, who hasn’t been named, has received medical attention and been placed with Adult Protective Services.

An investigation into the extent of the abuse is ongoing.
