WATERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say they have found the sport utility vehicle that they believe collided with a police cruiser in southern New Jersey last week and then fled the scene.

Waterford police executed a search warrant Saturday night at a garage in the 2300 block of Tremont Avenue and impounded an SUV that matches the description of the one involved in Friday afternoon’s accident. They say the SUV had damage consistent with the crash.

Authorities were seeking a “person of interest” in the case for questioning, but did not disclose further details.

Waterford officer Darren Carrero suffered some bumps and minor bruises in the hit-and-run crash but was back at work on Saturday. The impact caused his cruiser to flip over.
