DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Durango authorities are working to identify a body found in the Animas River as that of a 19-year-old University of New Mexico student who went missing almost a month ago.

The Durango Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1JboI8i) the search for criminology student Cody Shane Pierce started June 25 after he jumped into the river while in the area with co-workers from the Tall Timber Resort.

La Plata County Office of Emergency Management director Butch Knowlton says the body of a man presumed to be the missing teen was recovered Saturday night.

Pierce’s parents Laura and John joined the search for their son two weeks ago. Laura said her husband spoke with property owners nearby who spotted the body.

An autopsy is being conducted to confirm his identity.
