MIAMI (AP) - Key Largo residents are recognizing the 72nd anniversary of a World War II U-boat skirmish off their coast.

The Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/1MiG19q ) reports that on July 18, 1943, a Navy blimp spotted a German U-boat. An ensuing battle left the German submarine damaged, the American airship destroyed and one sailor lost at sea.

People gathered at the Military Museum of South Florida at Zoo Miami on the anniversary of the battle remembered the lost sailor in a special ceremony.
