NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) - Police have charged a state corrections employee in a shooting that left a person in critical condition in central New York.

Authorities say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Norwich. Officers were responding to a report of a person with a gun when they heard gunshots. Police found a person lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Wayne Spratley of the town of Green at the scene. He has been charged with second-degree attempted murder.

Spratley is being held at Chenango County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Police say more charges are pending.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
