LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada Highway Patrol says a 61-year-old man from Henderson is dead after a 24-year-old woman driving on state route 160 Sunday morning hit the car he was riding in head-on.

The agency said the woman was driving west on Blue Diamond Road southwest of Las Vegas when she attempted to pass slower vehicles by driving into oncoming traffic.

That’s when she hit a Ford Focus driven by a 16-year-old heading east at about 10 a.m.

The agency says Patrick Denley who was sitting in the front seat of the Ford died at the scene.

The 24-year-old was taken to UMC Trauma with serious injuries. Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel says the driver was at fault but the investigation is ongoing. The 16-year-old went to the hospital with minor injuries.
