NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) - The top city administrator in Newberg is on paid leave after the Yamhill County district attorney requested a criminal investigation into her decision to put the police chief on leave.

The Newberg City Council voted Monday to remove City Manager Jacque (JACK’ee) Betz from her job during the investigation.

Last week, police chief Brian Casey said he didn’t know why Betz removed him from his post.

Over the weekend, District Attorney Brad Berry said information came to light “which may involve the violation of criminal statutes.” He asked the Oregon State Police to investigate Betz and the Marion County prosecutor to make decisions about charges.

Betz could not be reached.

City Attorney Truman Stone will be acting city manager and Captain Chris Bolek will lead the police department.
