ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - A Burlington police officer has pleaded not guilty to charges she was driving drunk in an off-duty crash that led to the death of an elderly man.

Thirty-year-old Leanne Werner of St. Albans entered the plea Monday to charges of drunken driving with death resulting and driving with gross negligence resulting in serious injury.

Werner has been on leave since the July 12 crash.

Police say that 74-year-old Omer Martin, of St. Albans, died over the weekend of injuries suffered in the crash. Omer Martin’s wife, Jane Martin, was treated for a broken hand following the crash and later released.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1IfCrMC ) reports Werner left the courtroom Monday without making any comment.
