KURE BEACH, N.C. (AP) - Police in a small North Carolina beachside town are investigating a rare shooting that happened over the weekend.

Multiple media outlets report that an unidentified man was shot in the leg in Kure Beach, 15 miles south of Wilmington, while sitting on a bench outside of a restaurant on Sunday afternoon. Authorities say his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

Kure Beach Police Chief Dennis Cooper says three people have been detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made. Cooper says an altercation near the pier preceded the incident.

Cooper says that since his arrival in 1992, he cannot recall another shooting taking place in Kure Beach.
