RENO, Nev. (AP) - Dozens of marijuana plants have been seized from a home after Reno firefighters tore through the roof and extinguished a fire in the attic.

Crews were able to put out the fire on Sunday hours before officials discovered about 20 to 30 fully grown marijuana plants and several pounds of cultivated pot in the basement.

Police say the homeowner wasn’t home when the pot plants were found, but he had been home when the fire started and was able to get out safely.

Sgt. Robert Hanifan with the Reno Police Department says the homeowner is currently not being sought by police. He also says officials will likely submit a case to the District Attorney’s Office.

Police don’t believe the fire was related to the marijuana, but an investigation is ongoing.
