KOSCIUSKO, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol says a hit-and-run driver left a man lying on a highway in Madison County, where an SUV ran over him.

Trooper Eric Henry tells WLBT-TV (https://bit.ly/1KeZWCU ) that 51-year-old Michael Harkins of Kosciusko died on the scene.

Henry says Harkins was walking north on Highway 43 when he was first hit early Sunday.

He says the SUV hit Harkins soon afterward.

Henry says the SUV’s driver remained on the scene and called 911.

He says nobody saw the initial accident, so there’s no information about the first vehicle.
