BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - U.S. Sen. David Vitter continues his strong fundraising in the Louisiana governor’s race.

The Republican candidate for governor said Monday he raised more than $1.3 million in the most recent fundraising quarter ending July 16. Vitter’s campaign says it closed the period with $5 million in the bank for the Oct. 24 election.

A political action committee backing Vitter also released fundraising figures. The Fund for Louisiana’s Future said it brought in more than $1 million during the most recent quarter and has $4.3 million cash on hand.

Vitter’s three main competitors - Republican Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards - hadn’t yet released their campaign finance figures.

The reports are due to the state ethics board July 27.
