EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - More than 30 hours after a suburban Rochester family’s two dogs were carried away by a strong creek current, both pets are safe at home.

Kaley Garman says her two dogs are always together, so she feared the worst when only Roxy returned home early Monday morning after the dogs were swept away Saturday.

Garman figured if Roxy could find her way home, she could help find Maddix, the family’s other boxer-mix dog.

Walking through trails behind the Monroe Golf Club, the dog led Garman to Maddix, who was hidden in the woods, too weak and wounded to walk.

Maddix was brought to the vet and both dogs were reported as healthy.

Fire officials say the high water levels were due to heavy rain.
