FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - An official says a man was shot and killed by police inside a California police station after he tried to grab a gun from an officer.

Farmersville Police Chief Mario Krstic said Tuesday the shooting occurred after 26-year-old Estevan Andrade Gomez of Farmersville was arrested in a traffic stop.

An autopsy reports says he died of a single gunshot wound to the chest .

Gomez was being booked into custody on Saturday when officers say he started fighting with them.

Krstic said the fight moved into a nearby office, where Gomez is accused of trying to grab a weapon.

Krstic says two officers had tried to subdue Gomez with a Taser but failed.

Gomez had previously been arrested on suspicion of drug and robbery crimes.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. Their names have not been released.
