CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - A financially troubled detention facility in Central Falls is getting a new warden.

Interim warden Daniel Martin will now run the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility full time.

He will make $110,000 annually with bonuses for increasing the facility’s population.

The publicly owned but privately operated facility is operated by the Central Falls Detention Facility Corp.

It was used for pre-trial detention of federal prisoners and used to house Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees until 2008, when an inmate died of cancer after allegedly being neglected and abused by staff. Since then, the facility has been unable to fill its cells.

Wyatt had a bond debt of $97.3 million in July 2014. A temporary receiver was appointed in August.

Wyatt made an initial forbearance agreement payment on July 15 of $100,000.
