DETROIT, Ore. (AP) - Willamette National Forest officials say a 120-acre wildfire burning near Marion Lake in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness is 50 percent contained.

The Salem Statesman Journal reports (https://is.gd/4JmSbc ) that many closures are still in place at the popular recreation area east of Detroit. That’s about 45 miles southeast of Salem.

Forest officials say lightning started the fire on Saturday. About 100 firefighters are working on it, using water from Marion Lake.

Incident commander Chad Calderwood says fire activity is moderate. He adds there is a lot of large downed wood and snags in the area from a previous fire.

Trail closures remain in effect for a portion of the wilderness.
