BOSTON (AP) - A South Boston man is in critical condition after he was saved from drowning by an off-duty firefighter and three teens.

Fire officials say 54-year-old Sean Malone was out swimming off M street beach Monday. Chris Flaherty, a firefighter from Boston, went to the spot where Malone was swimming after he appeared to be in trouble.

When he got there he couldn’t find Malone, who had gone under water.

Officials say the three Milton teens were in their boat when they saw Flaherty waving for help. They picked him up and helped him search for Malone, who they eventually found and brought to safety.

Two of them helped Flaherty perform CPR on Malone.

He was taken to Boston Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
