PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Multnomah County grand jury has found that Portland police were justified in fatally shooting a man in a grocery store parking lot last month.

Police said two officers fired at 29-year-old Alan Lee Bellew after he brandished what appeared to be a gun in the WinCo Foods lot. It turned out he had a starter’s pistol.

Bellew was from the Eugene-Springfield area, and police said he was wanted for failing to appear on a heroin possession charge and for violating probation in a case of assault and resisting arrest.
