CANTON, Miss. (AP) - The Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area and Nissan will announce the carmaker is sponsoring construction of two Habitat homes in Canton.

Canton Mayor Arnel Bolden will join Nissan and Habitat officials at Wednesday’s event at 628 Coleman Street and 630 Coleman Street in Canton.

Habitat officials say in a news release that hundreds of employee volunteers from Nissan are taking part in a seven-day build of two homes being built simultaneously. Volunteers from the community also are joining the Nissan team each build day.

Cindy Griffin, executive director of HFHMCA, says Nissan’s association with Habitat for Humanity goes back to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Nissan donated $1 million, provided trucks to assist Habitat’s response efforts in the Gulf Coast and mobilized employees to assist in home building.
