SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Beware of callers posing as National Guard members or workers asking for money.

That’s the message from the Illinois National Guard. It says in a statement that it’s learned some individuals are claiming to be with the Illinois National Guard and soliciting donations by telephone.

The Monday statement says the illegal nature of such calls is clear. It says it is against U.S. Department of Defense regulations for the Illinois National Guard and all other such forces to ask for donations of any kind.

It asks anyone targeted by the scam to report the incident to local law enforcement.
