IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa’s two public research universities have reported increases in external funding for the past fiscal year.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says (https://icp-c.com/1MmkpsH ) the University of Iowa reports that its combined public and private funding for research rose to $438.5 million in fiscal 2015, which ended June 30, compared with $431.4 million in fiscal year 2014.

Adding gift commitments and charitable grants through the UI Foundation raises the university’s total amount of external funding to $560.8 million in fiscal 2015, compared with $515.8 million in fiscal 2014.

Iowa State University reports collecting $424.9 million in external funding in fiscal 2015, an increase over $368.4 million in fiscal 2014.

The University of Northern Iowa is not classified as a research university.
