MEHLVILLE, Mo. (AP) - Police have arrested a man accused of following an 11-year-old girl home from a St. Louis County store and sexually assaulting her.

The suspect was arrested about 5:30 a.m. Monday at a St. Louis home. Police say he tried to run but was tracked down by police dogs. His name has not been released pending charges.

The crime happened early Saturday after the girl was followed home from a grocery store in south St. Louis County. She told authorities she was awakened as two other children slept in the room. The girl said the man threatened to kill them if she did not keep quiet.

The children told their mother about the assault later that morning, saying they waited out of fear the man might still be in the house.
