OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old man who fled from Oakland police during a traffic stop was found dead while wedged in a thin gap between two buildings.

Oakland Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson tells the Oakland Tribune (https://bayareane.ws/1Khdalu ) officers pulled over a vehicle Sunday afternoon when the driver fled on foot into a nearby yard.

Watson said Monday officers waited for backup to arrive before searching the neighborhood. Within a half hour, police found the man “wedged in a small space” between two buildings. Officers performed CPR while calling for paramedics.

The unidentified man died at a local hospital. The cause of his death was not immediately released.

She says the officers learned the man was wanted for a $10,000 warrant, and that they found a pound of marijuana inside the car.
