FOLSOM, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot by police during a five-mile chase in suburban Philadelphia.

Police and prosecutors in Delaware County said an officer observed the man engaging in suspected drug activity in Chester on Tuesday morning and tried but failed to subdue him with a stun gun.

Officials said the man took off in a car with officers in pursuit. He struck a gate outside the State Correctional Institute at Chester, then headed toward officers, who opened fire, striking him in the back.

Officials said the pursuit continued along Route 291 into Ridley Township before the suspect’s car tires blew out near the Boeing plant and he was arrested.

The 24-year-old suspect was reported in stable condition at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.
