TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A northern Michigan man has died after authorities say he was struck by part of a metal drum that exploded.

Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean says 70-year-old Charles Lundy of Kewadin was welding something onto an enclosed, 55-gallon drum Monday afternoon in a pole barn near his home. According to Bean, the drum’s end burst and hit him, and might have killed him on impact.

Bean says that it’s possible that pressure had built up inside the drum, causing it to explode.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1JeinsK ) Lundy was welding the drum’s ends to make a wheel that he planned to use to move his dock and swimming raft.
