GRETNA, La. (AP) - The parents of a 22-month-old boy who said he was bitten 11 times on his first day at an in-home Westwego day care has filed a civil lawsuit asking for damages.

Amanda and Carl Dufrene filed the petition against Kayla Bellanger in Jefferson Parish state court.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1LzVaBw) Westwego police arrested Bellanger on July 13 and booked her with child desertion following an investigation into the injuries the Dufrenes said their son, Carson, received. The lawsuit alleges Carson, suffered abuse because of Bellanger’s negligence.

The lawsuit says Bellanger admitted that she was not present when the bites were inflicted.

Although Bellanger had an occupational license from Westwego for her day care business, the state said she did not have a child care facility license.
