BURLINGTON CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a southern New Jersey man accidentally drowned in the Delaware River while trying to swim.

The man found Sunday night in the river was identified Monday as 24-year-old Thomas Scott.

Police say the father of two was trying to swim with friends from Burlington City to Burlington Island around 7:15 p.m. Witnesses say Scott started having trouble staying afloat and went under water about halfway to the island.

Boaters tried to rescue him before crews arrived, but were unsuccessful. His body was found just before 9 p.m.

Crews are still searching for a 22-year-old Virginia man who went missing while swimming across the river near Bristol, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
