GEORGETOWN, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation is hosting a dedication ceremony Friday for the “Don Linzy Dixon Gospel Memorial Highway.”

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 28 in Georgetown in Copiah County.

The dedication honors the life and gospel musical career Dixon, who was the coordinator, leader and song writer for the Dixon Singers. Dixon was born in 1953 on a farm in Georgetown. Dixon was killed in 1980 during a robbery at a Jackson convenience store.

The highway designation runs along Highway 27 beginning at its intersection with Brushy Creek Road and extending south to its intersection with Highway 28.

MDOT will erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway.
