DENVER (AP) - A woman was killed and her husband was injured when they were struck by lightning while hiking in Chaffee County while on their honeymoon.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1RLyJyJ ) that 31-year-old Kathleen “Katie” Bartlett and 32-year-old Ryan Pocius were Mount Yale at an elevation of about 12,400 feet Friday when Bartlett became the first lightning fatality in the state this year. Pocius was critically injured but has been released from the hospital.

The Denver couple was married six days before the lightning strike. They were on the last day of their honeymoon.

Weather Service data shows lightning has killed 21 people in Colorado since 2005. About two dozen people have been struck by lightning.
