HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey woman accused of causing the death of her boyfriend’s mother during a fight has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.

The Record newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1MhbW9m ) 25-year-old Claudia Hernandez entered the plea Monday.

Prosecutors say the Waldwick woman fought with 28-year-old Juan Martinez in front of his 6-year-old daughter in November after they returned from a party. Martinez’s mother, 45-year-old Ana Rojas, went into cardiac arrest and died as she tried to stop the fight.

A grand jury indicted Hernandez on second-degree manslaughter and child endangerment charges in April.

Martinez pleaded not guilty Monday to hindering apprehension and child endangerment.

Attorneys for the pair say they haven’t been offered plea deals.

The couple is being held in lieu of bail.

They’re due back in court on Sept. 14.
