SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Marion County park is closed until Friday or later after workers saw three bears.

The Statesman Journal in Salem reports (https://stjr.nl/1TPv8x8 ) that a juvenile work crew spotted a black bear mother and her two cubs Tuesday at North Fork County Park, near Mehema, prompting the temporary closure.

Marion County Parks coordinator Russ Dilley says Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife told parks officials to pull garbage cans from the park so there would be no food sources for the bears. The park will be closed until Friday and maybe through the weekend.

The 12-acre park is about 30 miles east of Salem and is a popular summer destination during hot spells due to its swimming holes, hiking trails and picnic areas.
