CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Police say an officer shot a drug suspect to end a vehicle chase in eastern Pennsylvania that damaged five police cars and one owned by a civilian.

Chester police say they planned to charge 24-year-old Brian Bowe with drug offenses and several stemming from the 10-minute chase Tuesday morning which began in Chester and ended in neighboring Ridley Township.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan says the Chester officer who shot Bowe in the shoulder is on administrative leave while the shooting is reviewed, but Whelan expects the officer was justified. His name isn’t being released. Whelan says white powder, believed to be heroin, and drug paraphernalia was found in the car.

Bowe remained in Crozer-Chester Medical Center under police guard Wednesday. Authorities say he’s believed to be stable.
