LOS ANGELES (AP) - A gang member who opened fire on a South Los Angeles backyard and killed a 5-year-old boy posing for pictures in his Spider-Man Halloween costume has been sentenced to 128 years to life in prison.

A judge called 26-year-old Leonard Hall Jr. a “clear danger to society in handing down the sentence on Tuesday.

Hall was convicted in May of killing Aaron Shannon Jr. after two previous trials had ended in jury deadlocks. He was also convicted of the attempted murder of Shannon’s grandfather and uncle.

Prosecutors say Hall and an accomplice entered an alley in a rival gang’s territory on Halloween in 2010 and opened fire.

The boy was shot in the head.

Hall’s attorney has said he will appeal the verdict and he wasn’t at the shooting scene.
