PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon psychologist who billed a religious organization for work never performed has pleaded guilty to mail fraud.

Carol Landesman of Gresham entered the plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Portland.

The case began in 2004, when the Diocese of Paterson, New Jersey, settled a lawsuit, in part by agreeing to pay for a couple to undergo counseling with Landesman.

Court documents say Landesman only provided psychotherapy to the husband. But she also billed for the wife’s treatment, defrauding the diocese of more than $100,000 between July 2004 and January 2010.

Judge Michael Mosman set sentencing for Nov. 2.

Defense attorney Whitney Boise told the judge that the 73-year-old psychologist has relinquished her professional license.
