WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Hardwick man is facing charges for allegedly stealing a car left running outside a Worcester store with a 7-year-old girl in the back seat.

Police say Oscar Perez parked outside the store Monday afternoon and went in to make a quick purchase.

Police say 28-year-old Richard McBride attempted to steal the car while Perez was in the store. An officer nearby saw the incident and chased after the car.

When the officer pulled the vehicle over, police say the girl jumped out crying and ran to her father, who physically confronted McBride.

McBride has been charged with kidnapping, larceny and driving with a suspended license. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is due in court on Aug. 19.
