LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana-Lafayette football team’s preseason practice starts in just under two weeks, but don’t expect coach Mark Hudspeth to make a quick decision about his starting quarterback.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1HPDld2) Hudspeth has no plans to show his hand to season-opening opponent Kentucky until the very last moment.

Hudspeth says there are three candidates - Brooks Haack, Jalen Nixon and Jordan Davis - and the public will find out at the same time Kentucky finds out - when the Ragin’ Cajuns hit the field Sept. 5 for the road game’s first play.

Considering today’s social-media driven world, Hudspeth says he’s going to be selectively secretive when dispersing information about his starting signal caller.

He says all three quarterbacks will get a chance to compete and each deserves the opportunity.
