DETROIT (AP) - The undersides of three Detroit railroad viaducts will get makeovers from teams of artists.

The Detroit News reports (https://bit.ly/1CS0lM1 ) winners of a competition organized by nonprofit Midtown Detroit Inc. are bioLINIA and New D Media Arts, both of Detroit, and r+d LAB of Ann Arbor. Each team is expected to get $75,000 for the work.

BioLINIA will install “Reflector” in the Cass Avenue viaduct, a project involving 7,500 reflectors and other lights on the walls. On Third Avenue, New D Media Arts will install “Light Bender,” an animated design that will react to motion, lighting the way for all pedestrians.

For “Resonance” on Second Avenue, r+d LAB plans to mount 22 LED light boxes on the underpass walls and ceiling to intensify bands of light and dark.
