CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - South Carolina and North Carolina open their college football seasons in Charlotte on Sept. 3 at the home of the Carolinas Panthers.

The Charlotte Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1g82hWw ) organizers in the Carolinas’ largest city hope to set up more games between the two teams.

Charlotte Sports Foundation founder Will Webb said Wednesday he’s talked with the schools about more games, including a 2019 contest at Bank of America Stadium.

The teams played in Columbia on opening night in 2013. South Carolina won 27-10.

The Gamecocks opened the 2011 season in Charlotte, beating East Carolina 56-37.

Webb’s group is leading Charlotte’s effort to host the college national championship in 2019 and 2020.

They call this year’s contest the Belk College Kickoff Game, similar to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
