MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Two Alabama inmates have pleaded guilty to running a cellphone scam while there were in prison.

Federal prosecutors in Montgomery say 26-year-old Michael Shane Garrison and 21-year-old Marlon Ramon Coston each pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges this week.

Authorities say the men used phones that were smuggled into the Bullock County prison to call convenience stores.

The men would obtain account numbers of prepaid debit cards from workers and give them to 48-year-old Pamela Lee of Madison.

Lee would then transfer cash balances from one card to another. Prosecutors say she also pleaded guilty in the scam.

Each person could receive a sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
