TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - Police in Torrington say an hours-long standoff continues with an armed man barricaded in a home who reportedly has fired some gunshots.

Officers responded to the home on Torringford Street at about noon Friday on a report of an emotionally disturbed person who fired a weapon.

A SWAT team was called to the scene. Authorities blocked off the street and told nearby residents to stay in their homes.

Police say there were reports of gunshots shortly after noon. Witnesses said they heard another gunshot at about 5:45 p.m.

Paramedics and firefighters are on standby at the scene.
