NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez Mayor Butch Brown said tourism is rising in his city and he hopes to be able to announce soon that a new hotel is on the way.

Brown told The Natchez Democrat that a well-known hotel brand is considering a location near the Natchez Visitor Reception Center, near the river.

Brown also said the location could be on some nine acres that he owns.

At the Natchez Board of Aldermen’s July 14 meeting, Brown asked for the board’s support in luring a new hotel — including possible “tax increment financing” that would use future tax revenues to finance infrastructure built to attract development.
