ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a woman suspected of participating in the robbery of an Orlando apartment complex’s maintenance man has been hospitalized after being shot by a deputy.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said Friday that 24-year-old Tonya Santos was shot in the shoulder while in the passenger seat of a car driven by 26-year-old Elvin Andino. The two are suspected of fleeing the scene of the robbery. Demings said the pair was encountered at an intersection by Deputy Joe Ingerham, who fired about a dozen shots at their vehicle after apparently having a gun pointed at him.

Andino and Santos fled, and later exited their vehicle before being apprehended by deputies.

Ingerham has been placed on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and sheriff’s office are investigating the incident.
