July 25—The city of New Castle will be installing new lights at Dean Park.
City council approved an agreement Thursday with Baseball Tomorrow Fund for a $52,000 grant to install the new lights.
The grant carries a stipulation that the city secures $8,000 by Aug. 31 to relocate the outfield fence and renovate the outfield playing surface.
The city has applied for an American Honda Motor grant and plans to apply for a Field for Kids grant from the Pittsburgh Pirates to cover the cost.If neither of the grants is received, the $8,000 will be paid from the city’s general fund.
Reappointment gets approved
Council approved the reappointment of Harry DeRosa Sr. to the New Castle Area Transit Authority.
His term will expire Aug. 31, 2020.
Council approved a $10,000 settlement with public works employee Thomas Fontana.
Fontana injured his left shoulder during his employment and filed a worker’s compensation claim.
Council approved a consolidation of lots into one lot for the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home.
William F. DeCarbo Jr. said at a public hearing this week that in addition to the consolidation, a small piece of land will be transferred to Golden Hill Nursing Home, which is adjacent to the funeral home.
Council approved a change order for restroom improvements at Sylvan Heights Golf Course, reducing the cost by $500.
The change reduces the contract with Mielke Construction Inc. of New Castle to $15,100.
