MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected of breaking into cars in Malibu has been arrested and deputies recovered more than a hundred cellphones, laptops, tablets, car keys and other apparently stolen items.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say 33-year-old Israel Padilla was taken into custody Saturday after someone reported a man trying to open cars parked along Pacific Coast Highway. He is suspected in dozens of vehicle burglaries.
Some of the stolen property was returned to a victim of a burglary from earlier in the day.
Officials say Padilla was released on parole in April after serving time behind bars on burglary charges.
He is also a registered sex offender from 2004 arrest in Ventura County.
It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.
