TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a woman and her unborn child are dead along with two other people after a car crashed into a palm tree in Tucson.

Tucson police say the driver remains hospitalized in critical condition following the accident about 2 a.m. Monday.

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash and detectives still are trying to determine if the car was speeding.

They say the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle at a bend in the road and struck a palm tree in the median area.

Police say 25-year-old Alexandria Lara and her unborn child died shortly after being transported to a hospital.

The say 26-year-old Martin Verdugo and 28-year-old Sheyla Velarde were declared dead at the scene.

The name of the driver hasn’t been released.
