July 27—ALBANY — The Albany Police Department and the Dougherty County Police Department responded to two separate armed robbery incidents from over the weekend and into early Monday, reports show.

The APD responded to Woodall’s at 1500 N. Slappey Blvd. at 2:56 a.m. on Sunday. The clerk on duty reported to police that an unknown man entered the business and demanded money before firing a single shot in the roof, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD. The clerk opened the register and gave the man all she could grab, police said. He then left the store and fled the scene, Banks said.

The case was forwarded to the APD Criminal Investigations Bureau, Banks said.

The DCPD responded to the Flash Foods at 2336 Liberty Expressway at around 2 a.m. on Monday after reports of two men entering the store and taking an undisclosed amount of cash.

David McVey, a detective with the DCPD, said two black men wearing gray hoodies and bandanas over their faces entered the store. One had a revolver and another had a plastic bag. They got the contents of the cash register and left the store, he said.

McVey said there were no injuries and no shots fired. The hoodies were later found outside the store. The case remains active, he said.
