PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Officials say the Pasadena Courthouse is mostly closed after a small fire compromised the building’s air conditioning unit.

Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian says the blaze early Monday in a third-floor storage closet turned into a hazmat situation after crews came upon containers of hazardous materials that may have burned.

She says the courthouse is being ventilated and crews are repairing the air conditioning system.

City spokesman William Boyer says some business is being conducted in the courthouse’s west wing, while the main part of the facility remains closed.

Nobody was in the building when the fire broke out. The cause is under investigation.

One firefighter was treated at the scene.
